If you're gonna live in a foreign country, it's always a handy skill to KNOW the foreign language the locals speak in. Now now, Australians DO speak in English but if you know any better, you know it ain't what it sounds like! haha.. SO, for those of you who might choose to venture down under, we're giving YOU a hand in surviving Australia and its babbling locals and saving you from that awkward situation when a cute guy approaches to ask you something only to find you looking spastic and retarded (this is where you panic, turn left and right in fast motion to look for help, give up hope then nervously smile and try to get away with it by turning mute and grinning.. take note: this all happens in a split 5 secs duration).
Lesson #1: Bloody Basics
- g'day = good day
- goodbye = goodbye
- bloke = male
- mate = friend
- onya = well done (i.e: good-on-ya, mate!)
- drongo = a stupid, inept, awkward or embarrassing person, a dimwit
- cuppa = a cup of (tea/coffee)
- barbie = barbeque
- "-ie" = general add-ons for names (i.e: Angela=Angie / Elizabeth=Lizzie)
- "-o" = same concept for name add-ons (i.e: Jonathan=Johno / Benjamin=Beno)
- "-zza"/"-z" = same concept as well (i.e: Marion=Mazza/Maz / Gary=Gazza/Gaz)
- Hence, that would make us Amelia = Ammo,Hazel = Hazie, and Lyn = Lizza.. AHAHAHA!
