Surviving Ozland - Lesson #2: Random Babblings

Today's Dose of Sarcasm

...previously, on...
Surviving Ozland...

Aussies mumbled and babbled throughout their entire lifespan, leaving us confused and looking spastic trying to lip-read their babblings...

Today, we look at more random babblings from fellow Aussies here who continue to confuse us 'non-aussians' with words that foam outta their mouths. Pay attention and observe how more and more aussie words evolve from common similar sounding English words to words that don't even make sense at all! Well, here's how to decode some of them funny words:

Lesson #2: Random Babblings
  • arvo = afternoon
  • ankle biter = a small child
  • banana bender(don't ask why!) = resident of Queensland
  • fair dinkum = real/honest/genuine
  • kaput (sound familiar? haha!) = broken beyond repair
  • Macca's = McDonald's
  • pash = long enthusiastic kiss/making out (pashing)
  • pom/pommy/pommie = a person from England
  • schoolie = teenage school kids
  • servo = petrol service station
  • sparrows fart (??!!) = dawn
  • happy lil vegemite = happy and contented person
  • troppo = crazy / insane
  • ute = utility vehicle aka pickup truck
Still with words that sound totally made-up, Aussies continue to fascinate us. What next, you ask? Well, we can only learn so much in so little time... till the next episode...

...stay tuned for our next lesson in...
SURVIVING OZLAND!!

(coming soon -- Lesson #3: Brand Names)

Disclaimer: Yet again, we assure you that this is NOT an attempt to question your intelligence or comprehension of the Aussie slang, but a real effort in providing you with the best possible survival aid in understanding these babbling creatures down under. NYEE =D
